A full-blown alimentation is one of the main conditions of a successful bird keeping. As a rule the cage pets are a type of granivorous ones they are parrots, canaries, pigeons etc. But this fact doesn't mean that they have to eat only seeds. But in truth this sort of birds change their food every season in natural conditions. They can eat everything including animal feed, greens, fruits and tree barks. That is why the diversity of forages will bring your bird healthy.

Today you can see a wide variety of bird seed in different pet shops. As you see you can't feed your bird an entire year with corns because it won't harmonize with their natural nutrition.

There are a lot of cases when birds have the same forage for years and nothing happens, but illnesses not always reveal themselves in a quick way. Scientists observe such illnesses as the malfunction of molt, obesity, disorder of the reproductive function etc. All these occasions are conditional on wrong feeding of birds. And a shortage of vitamins and proteins weakens the defense reaction of a bird's body and makes it sensitive to different infective diseases.

So the main part of a bird's meal consists of grain mixtures. Diverse sorts of grains (wheat, millet, oats, maize and others) and seeds (canary seed, herbage seeds, seeds of lettuce) should be contained in this mixture because it is really helpful for a bird's prosperity. Oil-yielding crops can be also contained. They are sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, hemp seeds, different nuts and others. Obesity may be provoked by oil-yielding seeds so you are to give small portions of them to elude overdose.

Every bird has its own standard daily amount of meal so you are to follow that doses must not increase the norm. You may see that a canary would eat only one teaspoon a day and Cockatiel Parakeet's standard is 1 tablespoonful.

Also you may include in the blend different kinds of greens, fruits, vegetables, wild herbage, fresh leaves and branches of trees. And, of course you have to include animal feed to the bird's meal. Hen's eggs in a boiled condition, nonfat curds or small amount of nonfat minced meat can be added in a bird's ration. You should give such forages to your bird one time a week, but in moult period it will be two times a week and if it is a period of breeding - give it every day. Chalk or small stones must be also included in an extra feeder in a bird's cage. They include calcium and important for normal digestion of a bird.

Birds also need a spacious cage for them to feel comfortable. A great amount of pet shops can offer you to have various cages if you incline to bird houses.
